Public Opinion
I can't speak for others but I've had few jams where I was away from the public eye. Many of the best spots NCPK has found to jam at are filled with people. I believe that it is the responsibility of every traceur to be aware of those watching. Many people don't know about parkour/freerunning. Those who do think of it as a sport consisting of doing stunts and tricks. Most however don't care what we are doing so much was why we happen to be there "disturbing" their families outing. Parents just leave within ten minutes of our arrival at jams. We've been yelled at, threatened, and kicked off by authorities. I feel this is rather unfair to us.
When I jam there are three basic rules I follow when non-traceurs are round (we need a word for these people):
1. Watch language
2. Look out for innocent bystanders (mostly kids)
3. ANSWER QUESTIONS
I put number three in caps because a lot of people do ask us questions. "What are you kids doing" "Is this something for school" "Are ya'll in some sort of club" The general populace will know only what we see and tell them. The same goes for family members and school mates. I'm certain that many people can be brought to understand the principles behind parkour if the community is always willing "band together" and interact with the uninitiated.
